About this experience

This 1-day guided tour provides an in-depth look at the rise and fall of apartheid through the lens of South Africa’s most famous township and its pre-eminent museum. The morning begins in Soweto, visiting the FNB Stadium and driving through historic neighborhoods like Diepkloof and Orlando West. Guests participate in a guided walk through the Motsoaledi informal settlement to experience the local way of life before visiting the Hector Pieterson Memorial and the iconic Vilakazi Street. After a traditional "shisa nyama" lunch at a local restaurant, the afternoon is spent at the Apartheid Museum. Here, 22 individual exhibition areas use provocative film footage, artifacts, and photographs to document the journey from oppression to the democratic liberation of 1994.
